You know how some kid books you don't mind reading over and over because they're so creative and funny, but still manage to pass on a great message?
"Sock on the Loose" is one of those kinds of books.
Written by debut author-illustrator (and dad!) Conor McGlauflin, this rhyming picture book tells the story of Blue Sock, who goes on an adventure after his twin doesn't come back from the wash. I love his simple but beautiful watercolor illustrations. Each one is a work of art.
I also loved the playful rhyming text throughout “Sock on the Loose." Talk about letting your imagination go wild!
But it's not just silly — there's an important message there for kids within the pages: There are so many things a sock (or a child!) can do when given a chance to try something new.
It's a great message for kids, especially those like my son, who struggles with trying new things. This book offered helpful and gentle encouragement about budding independence and celebrating uniqueness — messaging that I appreciated and that also inspired an excellent discussion.
